John Hughes

John is a professional artist who has been painting for over 40 years. He maintains a studio in Taylorsville Utah. 

John is a highly sought out instructor and currently teaches landscape painting classes for Salt Lake Community College and on occasion has taught for the Scottsdale Artist School along with private workshops and classes. 

His work is represented by Montgomery Lee Fine Art in Park City Utah, Mountain Trails Gallery in Jackson Hole Wyoming, Trolley Art and Antiques, Sego Gallery and Brushworks Gallery  in Salt Lake City, Utah, Edelweiss Gallery in Midway Utah and the A Banks Gallery in Missoula Montana. 

John is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and the Plein Air Painters of Utah. 

John’s work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine, Fibonacci Fine Arts Digest, 15 Bytes magazine, Pratique des Arts, Outdoor Painter and Artist’s on Art.

John was recently interviewed for the Plein Air Podcast with Eric Rhodes, which aired on February 10, 2020.

He also writes “how to tips” for other artists and has had numerous articles on that subject in Fibonacci Fine Arts Digest, 15 Bytes and currently - Outdoor Painter (Plein Air Magazine’s on line newsletter). 

John’s work was recently featured in the book, “Painters of the Grand Tetons” by Donna and James Poulton.  

John’s love of art, life and nature, inspires his paintings of the American West and other locations which he visits to paint. Originally from New York State, then California, he now resides in the beautiful State of Utah with his wife Teresa; they have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
